He worked for banks in Morton, Littlefield and Lubbock, where he was head of agricultural lending at American State Bank (now Prosperity Bank). The years with ASB were the best years of his banking career. He was a life-long Methodist and a member of the Lions for over 50 years.

Practical to the end, when asked by his daughter Lisa to send a sign from heaven, he replied, "That's not how I do things. You'll have to get a sign from your mother." He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Wayland and Merlin.
