Carolyn Kay Hyatt West

Carolyn Kay Hyatt West, 87, of Littlefield passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in Littlefield. She was born November 26, 1934 in Beaver, Oklahoma during the Great Depression and dust bowl days to Walter and Vesta Hyatt.

Carolyn graduated from Beaver High School where she was a cheerleader. She continued to cheer on the colligate level at Southwest State University, where she met Neil. The couple were married on May 29, 1955. They made their home in Littlefield where they raised their three children. She was a Kindergarten teacher for Littlefield ISD for twelve years. Carolyn was very active in her community, where she served as a Girl Scout Leader, was an active supporter, contributor and board member of the Littlefield Duggan House Museum, and a chairwoman on the Waylon Jennings Celebration Committee, where she spent countless hours selling souvenirs at concerts to raise the funds to build the outdoor concert stage. She also was a member of 'We The Women' in Littlefield where she helped organize the annual Secretary's Day luncheon and served as President and Vice President, and she volunteered to help with the Thanksgiving dinner at the Senior Citizen's Center. Carolyn was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Xi Nu Nu, where she was very active and held the title of Woman of the Year, Girl of the Year, Hostess of the Year among others for multiple years. She also was awarded the honor of Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2003. Carolyn was an actress and active in Littlefield Community Theater where she had roles in 'Blithe Spirit', "Cactus Flowers' and even played Weezer in 'Steele Magnolias'. She wore many hats throughout her lifetime. She also liked to play golf, was a fisherwoman and hunter, and even owned a ranch in Oklahoma. She had a quiet faith which was shown thru her many acts of service and hospitality and generosity to friends and family. Carolyn will be remembered for being a hostess extraordinaire, no one could host a get together like Carolyn did.

Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Neil of Littlefield; two daughters, Cheryl McCartney of Littlefield and Dana Fenley and husband, Dwayne of Littlefield; a son, Tracy West and wife, Kimberly of Buda, Texas; and was a loving 'MiMi' to her seven grandchildren plus two and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Littlefield with Pastor Danny Sanders officiating. Interment followed in Littlefield Cemetery. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the South Plains Food Bank (5605 M.L.K. Blvd, Lubbock, TX 79404).
