Uil Loros Gunter, 90, of Amarillo and formerly of Olton, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, in Amarillo, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Olton. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Uil was born March 11, 1933, at his home on the ranch in Elida, New Mexico, to William Carey and Helena Boone (Bryan) Gunter. He graduated from Olton High School in 1950 and attended West Texas College for a year before beginning his farming career. On January 18, 1953, Uil married Fern Carson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olton where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member for many years. A fine example of what a Christian and family man should be, Uil loved reading his Bible and enjoying nature. Farming until the age of 83, Uil also served the Olton community in many ways, including time on the Olton ISD school board and the Olton Grain Coop board.
The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite ministry.
