This information letter is to let all of you know that the Museum IS NOT CLOSED permanently, but in transient. We lost the Duggan House, and were looking for another place we could open, when Ben Warren very kindly offered us the other half of his building, the old ‘ Ware’s Store’. We were so grateful, because we had to be out of the house by the end of July and were getting antsy.
Board members and volunteers did all the packing and moving for which I am eternally grateful. Finally, we have everything moved and intact, and will be opening as soon as some alterations are done.
It is a Wild Rumor that everything was thrown in the dump, because that would NEVER have happened. In fact, we were in the process of calling and getting ahold of donors when we got the offer to move. All the contents were moved intact to the new building, and nothing was damaged or lost. I must thank Mitch Grant, our City Mgr. for assisting us moneywise in moving and sending some of his people to help. They worked hard and were very much appreciated.
Among lots of tears because we lost the lovely house (even if it did need a lot of repairs), I am sure we can make the new place more attractive when we finally get started. BUT, since we lost the Duggan House, we have had to change the name of the place. It will now be “ Littlefield Lands Museum”. Same old people running it and to my knowledge, everything else is the same.
We welcome any money in Dues or just plain ole contributions that you could donate because it will take plenty of funds to get started AGAIN. In fact, I may get on my knees and beg if it will help. We can also use volunteers to help with the clean-up and getting the displays set up, so if you feel this is something you could do, please call Pat Robbins, 806-385-3206 or me at 806-470-9926.
Also, we need any individual that would like to serve on the Board of Directors for the Museum. Our former members, Jan, Jay and Gaile all moved, Carolyn passed away, and Linda Kaye has retired, so we really need more than the four (4) of us that are left. Just think about this, because I know it is a commitment some just don’t care to make but we could really use more input in running this very needed place for future generations.
As I have said, we are NOT gone, just re-locating and can use all the help you can give. Remember, we would NEVER destroy any of the contents that have been donated by the wonderful people living here, or that used to live here. We are a “Keeper of the Past” for future generations to enjoy and we look forward to seeing all of you in the future. wge
