In Loving Memory Of Don Leslie Carson

Dec. 10, 1935 ~ July 24, 2022

Don Leslie Carson, born on Dec. 10, 1935, beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 surrounded by loving family from near and far.

Don was the son of Dorothy and Lec Carson, one of Olton’s original farming families. He was born and raised in Olton with his loving brother Joe Ed Carson and sisters Jan Carson Whitener and Carolyn Carson. Tragically, Carolyn lost her life when only 16 years old in an auto accident. Don received his undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University and after graduation, attended seminary in Kansas. After seminary, he was called to serve as a preacher for several years. Eventually, he relocated to California and began his new career at Sears Roebuck in their newly formed Credit Center where he managed and led over 1000 employees during Sears Inc.’s entry into the national credit industry with their Discover Credit card. In California, Don met Nancy who he fell in love with and married in 1970. Nancy was Don’s love of his life for almost 46 years and after roughly 30 years at Sears, Don retired from Sears, and they relocated to Lebanon Oregon, eventually returning to his family home in Olton Texas. Don was an avid horseman, woodworker, highly skilled marksman, hunter, cattleman and lover of golf.

Don was a devoted father to his five children and provided endless “learning opportunities” through his wise counsel. He was a born teacher and shared his love of Christ with his children through his vast knowledge of the bible and unconditional love. He deeply loved each of his children and grandchildren, all “unique,” in his eyes and could always be counted on for support.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; sister Carolyn; grandson, Jericho; and parents Lec and Dorothy.

He was a beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather and is survived by five children: Robyn Carson (Wayne Carson) of Olton, Texas, Julie Crandall of Lubbock, Becky Deller (Eric Deller) of Del Mar, CA, Kelly Carson of Olton, Texas and Donna Carson of Yucaipa, CA. Don had fifteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren that will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Ed Carson (Maurice, deceased) of Abernathy and Jan Carson Whitener (Wade Whitener deceased) of Washington DC.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Olton. Interment followed at the Olton Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Carson, Ben Ross Young, Ethan Deller, Dominic Carson, Joshua Crandall and Julian Crandall. Arrangements were under the personal direction of Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton, Texas.
