Littlefield High School hosted a three-day cheer camp on Wednesday, June 22, through Friday, June 24 at the Wildcat Gymnasium. The camp was separated into two sessions. The first session is three- and four-year-olds and the second session is five-year-olds to 11-year-olds.

Cheer Sponsor, Trisha Nelson, said it is tradition for the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior High cheerleaders to plan out the cheers, chants and dances the girls do at the camp.

“My high school cheerleaders, they have prepared cheers, dances and chants for all the little ones to learn and they base it off of their age level. Tomorrow, we’re going to have parent performances and they’re going to get to perform all the stuff for the parents,” she said.

Ale Rojas, one of the captains and an incoming senior, said she has been with the camp since she was in the seventh grade.

“Our little ones are very active and – get distracted very easily,” she said, with a laugh. “It’s pretty hard to keep them on track and with out older girls, they like being challenged and it’s really fun when they get to know the dances and stuff like that.”

Rojas said some of the activities they have planned include practicing, but they also play games.

“We like to make sure they’re also having fun. We do a lot of ‘Simon Says’ and ‘Little Sally Walker’ and stuff like that.”

Mykenzie Price, the other captain and incoming senior, has also been apart of the camp since she was in the seventh grade.

Price said the cheers and chants they teach to the girls at the camp are the same ones the high school cheerleaders do during games.

“We do make some up, like we’re creative with some of them, but it’s mainly just a little bit of the cheers we do.”

Cheer Sponsor, Trisha Nelson, said the girls that attend the camp will cheer along side the high school cheerleaders during the first home football game of the season during the third quarter.
