A meal of rib-eye steak, baked potato, salad, and fruit cobbler, dinner rolls, and iced tea was served Saturday night in the Springlake Volunteer Fire Department building. The event is celebrated for Texas’ Independence from Mexico, on March 2, every year. The Lone Star Flag as we see it today, was adopted by the Republic of Texas in January 1839, and flies the same colors as the U.S. Flag. It became the official state flag when Texas entered the Union as the 28th state, on December 29, 1845.
