Springtime in 4-H means rifle, shotgun and archery disciplines in 4-H Shooting Sports! Safety is the first lesson taught and maintained throughout the programs. Participants are taught how to safely handle the firearm. This includes maintenance of the firearm, loading, and firing safely on the line. Being knowledgeable about firearms is an important lesson that lasts a lifetime. As you grow in the program you will learn about accessories that you can add to your firearm.

Safety is always first, but 4-H Shooting Sports is also fun. The shooting sports program encourages a diverse group of kids. Just like with any team, you encourage each other and strive to help each other excel.

Interested? Contact your local extension office to find out more about when they will be holding their initial safety meeting and practices.

Adults are always welcome! The Texas A&M AgrLife Extension Service provides training for adults to become certified coaches. Without certified coaches this program is not possible. The more certified coaches, the more youth that can be taught! Contact your local extension office if you are interested in helping youth become safe firearm handlers.
