Bennie P. Martinez Aug. 15, 1949 Jan. 3, 2018 - Vanessa Martinez Jan. 20, 1953 Jan. 5, 2018

Bennie P. Martinez, Jr., 68, of Littlefield, passed away Wednes day, Jan. 3, 2018 in Littlefield.  He was born Aug. 15, 1949 in Artesia, NM to Bernardo Martinez Sr. and Inez Perez Galan. His wife of 50 years, Vanessa Hernandez Martinez, 64, joined him in Heaven just two days later, on Jan. 5, 2018.  She was born Jan. 20, 1953 in Littlefield to Ruben Hernandez and Eugenia Padron Hernandez. Mass was celebrated Monday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield with Richard Martinez officiating.  Interment followed in Littlefield Memorial Park.  A prayer service was held Sunday evening, Jan. 7, 2018 at Grace Chapel with Pastor Billy Montes officiating. Bennie and Vanessa married on Dec. 31, 1967 in Littlefield.  They were true sweethearts, and you rarely saw one without the other.  A true testimony to their devotion for each other is evident in the fact after Bennie died suddenly of illness, Vanessa became ill and followed less than 48 hours later.  They couldn’t bare to be apart in life, or in death. Bennie retired from Littlefield Feedyard, and she was a home- maker.  He enjoyed watching old Western movies, tending to his yard, making people laugh, and music, especially Elvis Presley and Alan Jackson. Bennie loved to dance, having breakfast daily with his sisters, and never missed Happy Hour at Sonic, where he would order a Coke and Vanessa would get her cherry lime or unsweet tea with lemon. Vanessa enjoyed playing games on her phone, solving crossword puzzles, listening to Spanish music, and making her chile Colorado that was extremely hot, but everyone loved eating it anyway. Most of all, they loved spending time with their family, and they were always there for them when they needed anything. Bennie was the rock they all depended on, and was one of a kind.  Vanessa was kind and loving, and a motherly figure to many.  They were Catholic. Bennie and Vanessa left a legacy of five sons, Ricky Martinez of Lubbock, Roger Martinez and wife, Rosemary of Littlefield, Jonathan Martinez and wife, Melissa of Littlefield, Shane Martinez of Littlefield, and Matt Tyson and wife, Megann of Tucson, Arizona; three daughters, Christina Martinez of Littlefield, Cora Garcia and husband, RJ of Littlefield, Cynthia Munoz and husband, Chema of Littlefield; eleven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Bennie is also survived by his pops, John Galan of Littlefield; four brothers, Sammy Martinez and wife, Kathy of Littlefield, Frank Cavasos and wife, Isabelle of Littlefield, Curtis Ivey of Dallas, and Bernie  Martinez  of  Hereford;  and  ten  sisters, Virginia Arce  of Littlefield, Margie Gonzales and husband, Joe of Amherst, Mary Lou Perez and husband, Pedro of Lubbock, Josephine Rodriquez of Lubbock, Rachel Diaz and husband, Timmy of Dallas, Patricia Galan of Littlefield, Lola Becera and husband, Joe of California, Melissa Galan of San Angelo, Sara Saunders of Norfolk, VA and Sylvia Boyd of Norfolk, VA. Vanessa is also survived by her eight brothers, Joe Hernandez and wife, Francis of Littlefield, Abel Hernandez and wife, Georgia of Amherst, Ruben Hernandez of Amherst, Phillip Hernandez and wife, Marcy of San Angelo, Roy Talamantez and wife, Betty of Burlingotn, CO, Nino Talamantez and wife, Cheryl of Lisco, NE, Dean Talamantez of Burlington, CO and Jimmy Talamaztez and wife, Liz of Blue Springs, MO; and six sisters, Virginia Poras and husband, Sabino of Amherst, Librada Lara and husband, Charlie of Littlefield, Linda Alvarado of Sabinal, TX, Lucilda Sanchez of Kissimmee, FL, Sally Potteroff and husband, Lynn of Burlington, CO, and Sylvia Brooks and husband, Jeff of Burlington, CO. He was preceded in death by his mom, Inez Perez Galan; his dad, Bernardo Martinez; and two brothers, Freddie Martinez and Johnny Joe  Galan,  and  she  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  father, Ruben Hernandez; her mother, Eugenia Hernandez; two sisters, Diana Par- sons of Amherst, and Margeret Talamantez of Burlington, CO and a brother, Tony Hernandez. Serving  as  pallbearers  was  Ricky  Martinez,  Roger  Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Shane Martinez, Nicholas Garcia, Benjamen Martinez, Matt Tyson and Roy Arce. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
