Funeral services for Ella Mae Johnson, 81, of Littlefield, who died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 in Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, were held Friday morning, Dec. 8, in New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Littlefield. Pastor Donald Ross, officiated. Burial was in Littlefield Cemetery, with McCarty Funeral Home of Littlefield in charge of arrangements. Ella Mae was born Dec. 5, 1936 in Thorndale, Texas to the now late Dave Lewis and Willie Mae Simmons Lewis. After the family moved to Littlefield, she attended Littlefield schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. She married Clerence Jean Johnson on May 4, 1959. After finishing Cosmetology school in Tyler, she came back to Littlefield, where she worked at Joy’s Beauty Salon for 20 years. She then did hair out of her home, and coooked and sold barbecue out of a truck in the neighborhood. In her church, she ministered as a singer. Preceding her in death were her father, Dave Lewis; her mother, Willie Mae Simmons Lewis; a son, Melvin Johnson; two sisters, Alice Willard, and Josephine Simmons; and her brothers, Walter Lewis and Izear Lewis, Willie Lewis, and Billy Joe Thomas. Surviving are her husband Clerence Jean Johnson; her children, Jewel Jones Kathlean, Frank Ingram and Rose Frankling; her sisrers, Merline Williams and husband, Curtis, of Casa Grande, Ariz, and Nancy Jean Willis of Lubbock; along with many grandchildren, greatgranchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Serving as pallbearers were Sammy Joe Davis, Quincy Davis, Andre Shaw, Quintin Lewis, Anthony Goodson, Ferente Lewis, Sr., Benjemon Bean, DeAndre Bean, Ferente Lewis, Jr. and Brelton Lee Smith.
