Memorial service for Louise "Poodle" Boyles, age 88 of Sudan, TX is scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Sudan, with Don Guthrie officiating. Louise passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. At her side was her sister and lifelong best friend, Zanelle Martin. Her love of life didn't end with her death. Her family and the multitude of people she touched will continue to honor her legacy and the examples she set by living their lives to the fullest.

Retired educator, avid reader, traveler, and quintessential jokester, Louise was born Aug. 25, 1933, to Henry GriffBoylesandLillieMae Beauchamp Boyles on their farm south of Sudan. After graduating from Sudan High School, she attended West Texas State University and obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. At the ripe old age of21, Olton lSD hired her for her first teaching and coaching job. Later, she headed West and spent 30 years doing what she was called to do-coaching and teaching English for Arizona Public Schools in Williams,AZ and then in Glendale. Louise's pride was in her students, colleagues, and her school. She shared her passion for learning with thousands of children over the years. She loved her "kids" like they were her own and looked forward to those big reunions she planned so that she could see them, visit with them, and hug their necks. She remained in touch with her Arizona friends and students up until she passed.

Louise lived her life on her own terms. She was fiercely independent, full of life, and up for pretty much any activity. At the age of 18, the small-town girl loaded up her car with friends and headed to New York, eventually landing a job at a summer camp in Connecticut. She traveled to aliSO states and all over the world. One of her favorite trips was the one she took in 1970 with her mother to the Holy Lands. You could find her panning for gold in Alaska, riding a mule to the bottom ofthe Grand Canyon, attending the Olympics, or at her cabin in Flagstaff, surrounded by friends and family; cracking jokes and laughing-always laughing. She had a lifelong love of the outdoors.

As the baby of six, family was everything to Poodle. To know her was to know you were loved. When Aunt Poodle would make her trips to Texas, her nieces and nephews were guaranteed adventures, gifts, and big stories. As a lover of sports, she spent her life driving all over the world to watch her nieces, nephews, and eventually, her greats play in thousands of games. She adored holidays and at Christmas, all were sure to be "fined" for however she felt they had wronged her throughout the year: for Irish goodbyes and for ding dong ditching her, for missing Thanksgiving, not answering their phones, for laughing when someone made a joke at her expense, or for making fun of her for getting hacked on Facebook. She would laugh and laugh when she gave out her gag gifts or all of those random regifts she kept around for years.

As condolences continue to pour in, her family finds comfort in reading of how she positively affected so many. Students list her as their favorite teacher and their inspiration. Friends tell stories of how Lou was the life of the party with a heart of gold. She's described as "one of the good ones", loyal, fun, and as a fiery trailblazer who was tough but who loved big. She wanted the best for all of her people and she will be missed by so many. Poodle is rejoicing in Heaven with her parents, her brothers Ellis and Bill Boyles, her sisters Elnora Gutlu-ie and Gladys Landn.un, and her beloved nephew, Danny Martin.
