Mustangs blast Lockney, 74-31

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team pushed their winnings streak to three games to open the season, as they took down Lockney on the road last Tuesday, 74-31.

With the win, the Mustangs are 3-0 overall on the season.

Olton jumped out to a 15- point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as they held the Longhorns to single-digits scoring in each of the first three quarters. The Mustangs poured in 21 points in the second frame to take a, 36-13, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, Olton netted 26 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth to take the contest, 74-31.

Brennon Huguley and Chris Urbina led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points apiece and were joined in double-figures scoring by Andrew Martinez, who netted 14 points.

Jake Soliz chipped in nine points, while Nick Casares contributed eight points and Joe Canchola tallied six points. Jimmy Munoz added three points, while Nathan Urbina and Alex Santillan each finished with two points in the contest.

The Mustangs were at Hale Center on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will begin tournament play at New Home on Thursday morning as they take on Lubbock Christian in their first game of the day at 9:30 a.m. They will also play play the host team Leopards at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
