The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team rallied back at home on Tuesday night to take down the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles, 58-54.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 6-4 overall on the season.

Abbie Crow got the game going in the first quarter for LCHS with a lay-up in transition, but on the other end, junior, Gracyn Shultz answered with a lay-up on the right side for Sudan to tie the game, 2-2, with 7:14 remaining in the opening quarter. Senior, Addison Boehning, scored a putback off of her own miss, but on the other end, Skylar Simmons was fouled on an attempt by Boehning earning a trip to the line. She converted both free throws to tie the game, 4-4, with just under six minutes to play in the first quarter.

Hagan Bennett scored a lay-up off of a turnover by Boehning, but junior, Stevi Lockhart, had the answer, as she dribbled up to the top of the key and buried a three to put the Nettes in front, 7-6. With just over four minutes remaining in the quarter, Blair Boyd bounced a pass across the lane to Callie Roberts, who dropped it in for a lay-up to give LCHS a one-point advantage, 8-7.

The Lady Eagles followed it up, as Simmons drove the right side of the basket for a lay-up, as Sudan took a time out with 3:36 left to play in the quarter, trailing LCHS, 10-7.

Out of the break, Roberts was fouled on an attempt by junior, Braelyn Pointer. She split the free throws to extend their lead to, 11- 7, but on the other end, Lockhart drew a shooting foul on Lexi Caddell. She knocked down both free throws to trim the lead to, 11- 9, with 2:33 left to play in the first.

With under two minutes left to play in the quarter, Boehning drove the lane and kicked it out to Shultz, who drained a three from the right elbow to give Sudan the lead, 12-11. However, with under one minute to play in the quarter, Brooke Hooten dropped in a layup, drawing an and-one foul on Lockhart. She converted the free throw and Caddell followed it up with a lay-up to make it a four-point LCHS lead, 16-12, going into quarter number two.

Hooten sank a pair of free throws to open the second quarter and Boyd scored a lay-up in transition, as Sudan took a time out to talk things over, trailing LCHS, 20-12. Out of the break, Roberts scored a lay-up off of the assist from Caddell, but Sudan responded on the other end, as Lockhart knocked down a bucket for the Nettes to trim the lead to, 22-14, with just under five minutes to play in the first half.

Shultz followed it up with a strong take to the basket for a layup and on the next play, Boehning was fouled on an attempt, earning a trip to the line. She split the free throws, making the score, 22-17, with 3:29 left to play in the half. Lockhart was fouled on the floor by Roberts, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She converted both free throws to make it a three-point game, 22-19.

Roberts took a charge on Shultz and was fouled on the next play by Boehning, earning a trip to the line. She sank both free throws to make it a five-point game, but Lockhart answered on the other end, as she buried a three from the left elbow off of the assist from Pointer, making it a one-possession game, 24-22.

With under one minute to play, Boyd split a one-in-one opportunity at the line and they followed it up with a lay-up off of a steal to stretch their lead to, 27-22. But, in the closing seconds, Lockhart was fouled on the floor by Crow. She knocked down both free throws to cut the lead to, 27-24, going into the locker room at halftime.

Pointer was fouled on an attempt by Crow to open the second half. She split the free throws to make it a one-possession game, but on the other end, Hooten scored back-to-back lay-ups for LCHS to extend their lead back out to, 31- 25. Lockhart knocked down a pullup jumper from the right side, but on the next play, she was called for a charge with 4:17 left to play in the third quarter.

LCHS capitalized on the turnover with a jumper from the right wing, but on the next play, Riley Edens was fouled on an attempt by Boyd, earning a trip to the line. She made one-of-two shots at the line, making the score, 33-28.

With 2:37 left to play in the quarter, Lockhart knocked down a jumper from the right elbow to make it a three-point LCHS lead, 33-30. Simmons split a pair of free throws for the Lady Eagles, but Shultz answered with a pull-up jumper in the lane to make it a onepossession game, 34-32.

LCHS scored back-to-back buckets, but Shultz ended the run with a floater in the lane and Edens followed it up with a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Linley Bruington. She converted the free throw to make the score, 38-37, with under one minute remaining in the quarter.

Crow was fouled on the floor by Elaine Martinez, earning a trip to the line. She split the free throws, and on the other end, Lockhart was fouled on an attempt; she sank both free throws to tie the game, 39-39. But, in the closing seconds, Caddell was fouled on an attempt by Shultz and split the free throws to give LCHS a one-point advantage, 40-39, going into the locker room at halftime.

Simmons was fouled on an attempt by Edens to open the fourth quarter; she split the free throws and on the next play, Hooten was fouled on an attempt by Shultz. She made the first and missed the second, but a violation on the second shot gave her a third shot in which she drained to make the score, 43-39.

With 6:26 left to play in the game, Shultz was called for a foul on the defensive rebound, giving her her fifth foul as she headed to the bench. The Nettes would respond, as Landree Gonzales buried a three from the right wing, off of the assist from Boehning to make it a one-point game, 43-42.

Simmons dropped in a lay-up off of a turnover by Lockhart, as Sudan took a time out with 5:19 left to play, trailing by three. Out of the break, Boehning was fouled on the floor by Simmons. She made one-of-two shots at the line to cut the lead to two-points, 45-43. Simmons answered for LCHS with a dagger three from the left wing to make it a five-point lead for the Lady Eagles, 48-43.

Hooten was fouled on the floor by Martinez in the double-bonus. She made one-of-two shots at the line, but Gonzales responded with a three from the left wing off of the assist from Boehning to make it a three-point game, 49-46, with 3:45 remaining. On the following possession, Cornelius was fouled on an offensive rebound by Bennett, earning a trip to the free-throw line. She made both attempts to make it a one-point game, 49-48.

Hooten would quickly extend the lead with a lay-up, but on the next play, Cornelius was again fouled on the floor by Roberts. She went to the line in the doublebonus and sank one-of-two shots at the line and Boehning dropped in a tear-drop on the left baseline to tie the game, 51-51, with 2:17 remaining.

LCHS took a time out with 2:16 on the clock, and out of the break, Boehning was fouled on the floor by Crow. She converted both free throws to give Sudan the lead, 53- 51. With 1:31 left to play, Hooten was fouled on an attempt by Boehning, who picked up her fifth foul, sending her to the bench. Hooten made one of two shots to make it a one-point Sudan lead, 53-52.

Lockhart would go on to convert four free throws along with one by Pointer to ice the game for Sudan, as they took down LCHS, 58-54.

Lockhart led the team in scoring with 24 points, to go along with three rebounds and two steals. Shultz tallied nine points, three rebounds, three steals, two steals and one block, while Boehning chipped in eight points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

Gonzales contributed six points, two rebounds and one steal, while Pointer notched four points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal and Edens tallied four points and six rebounds. Cornelius added three points, four rebounds and one steal, while Tolbert finished with one rebound.

The Nettes will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Borden County.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
