LADY CATS TAKE DOWN TAHOKA, 57-20

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team took down the Tahoka Lady Bulldogs on Friday, 57-20, at Wildcat Gym in Littlefield.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 2-3 overall on the season.

Kaycee Swinford opened the game with a lay-up for Tahoka and Brooklyn Harris followed it up with a jumper from the right wing to put the Lady Bulldogs up, 4-0. With 6:23 remaining in the opening quarter, senior, Ashtyn Parker, was fouled on an attempt by Nataly Taylor. She converted both free throws to get the Lady Cats on the board, trailing Tahoka, 4-2.

Taylor answered with a jumper from the left wing, but the Lady Cats responded, as senior, Emily Champion, dropped in a lay-up off of an assist from Parker to cut the lead to, 6-4. With 5:32 remaining in the quarter, sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, was fouled on an attempt by Brooklyn Harris. She made one-of-two shots at the line to trim the lead to, 6-5.

Junior, Madison McNeese, went coast-to-coast for a lay-up to give Littlefield their first lead of the game, 7-6, but it was shortlived, as Swinford dropped in a floater on the other end for Tahoka, making the score, 8-7, with just under five minutes to go in the first quarter. With 4:14 left to play in the quarter, McNeese grabbed a defensive rebound and heaved an outlet pass down court to Champion, who dropped in the lay-up to put the Lady Cats back on top, 9-8.

Madison Rose dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Swinford, but McNeese buried a three from the left corner on an inbound play to put the Lady Cats back in front, 12-10. Parker missed on a pair of free throws, but an offensive rebound went out to McNeese, who stepped up and buried a three from the top of the key to extend their lead to, 15-0.

With time winding down in the opening quarter, McNeese was fouled on an attempt by Kendra Garcez. She split the free throws to make the score, 16-10, as the first quarter came to a close.

Arianna Cruz opened the second frame with a three from the left elbow off of the assist from Edgemon and on their next possession, Champion was fouled on a put-back attempt by Taylor; she made one-of-two shots at the line, making the score, 20-10, with 7:15 remaining in the first half.

Parker lobbed a pass into Edgemon, who took it to the hoop for a lay-up to make the score, 22-10. With just under five minutes to go in the half, Edgemon dropped in a lay-up and drew an and-one foul on Rose. She missed the free throw leaving the score, 24-10. Amiah Elizondo grabbed an offensive rebound and got it to Edgemon, who dropped in the lay-up for the second-chance bucket, stretching their lead to, 26-10.

Littlefield kept the offense going in the second quarter, as Edgemon dropped in another lay-up off of the assist from Hanlin to push their lead to, 28-10, however, on the other end, Addison Braddock was fouled on the floor by senior, Brookelyn Gau, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She made the first shot, but missed the second, trimming the lead to, 28-11, with 2:48 left to play in the half.

Parker converted a pair of free throws on the other end, after being fouled by Baylie Harris, and McNeese dropped in a layup to make the score, 32-11, going into the locker room at halftime.

Swinford was called for a fivesecond call to open the third quarter, as she couldn’t get the inbound pass in. Edgemon got the scoring going in the second half for Littlefield with a jumper from the left wing, off of the assist from Parker, pushing their lead out to, 34-11.

Taylor drained a pair of free throws to get Tahoka on the board in the second half, but with 5:05 left to play in the third quarter, Edgemon was fouled on an attempt by Brooklyn Harris. She split the free throws and a minute later, Brianna Valdez was fouled on an attempt by Braddock. She split the attempts as well, making the score, 36-13.

Hanlin scored a lay-up off of a steal, as Tahoka took a time out with 3:16 remaining in the quarter, trailing Littlefield, 38-13. Out of the break, Elizondo used a pump fake to get Rose off balance as she dribbled around her on the right baseline and dropped in a lay-up to extend their lead to, 40-13.

Taylor knocked down a jumper from the left wing and Hanlin answered with a tear drop in the lane, stretching the lead to, 42-15, with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter.

McNeese buried a three from the left elbow to send the Lady Cats into the final frame in front of Tahoka, 45-15.

Edgemon opened the fourth quarter by taking a charge on Garcez, but Tahoka answered, as Zoie Garvin knocked down a jumper from the left elbow, trimming the lead to, 45-17. Edgemon answered on the other end, cutting through traffic for a lay-up, but on the next play, Swinford was fouled on the floor by Edgemon, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She split the free throws, making the score, 47-18.

McNeese picked up a steal and threw it down court to Champion on the fast-break, who dropped in the lay-up to finish off the play, extending their lead t, 49-18. Gau followed it up two plays later with a layup to make the score, 51-18, with just over four minutes to play in the game.

Brooklyn Harris split a pair of free throws, but Edgemon answered with a three from the right elbow to make the score, 54-19, with 3:18 left to play. Grace Reglin split a pair of free throws after being fouled by Gau, but with time winding down in the game, Jazzmin Rosalez buried a three from the right elbow to close out the contest, as Littlefield took down Tahoka, 57-20.

McNeese led the Lady Cats in scoring with 14 points, and she was joined in double-figures scoring by Edgemon, who finished with 13 points. Champion chipped in seven points, while Parker and Hanlin each contributed four points and Rosalez and Cruz each tallied three points.

Gau and Elizondo each added two points, while Valdez finished with one point in the contest.

The Lady Cats hosted Monahans on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will return to the court on Nov. 30 th when they travel to Hereford to take on the Lady Whitefaces.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
