The nouns in the title are all used to greet a woman that we all love. She was well-read, traveled, educated, and could cook like none other. She was Louise Elsea Alair of Springlake, Texas. She was an only child who never met her father due to an oilfield accident before she was born. She was stronger than many of us, having outlived her grandparents, parents, husband, daughter, two of her three sons, and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends.

On April 27, 1930, Louise Elsea Alair was born and did not have running water, indoor plumbing, or electricity. In her lifetime, she has helped usher in an era of modern mechanized farming, contemporary abstract art and participated in the Information Age. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees while raising a family and helping run the farm. She was an accomplished cook and artist, as well as, a painter, potter, jeweler, and philosopher. She gave freely of herself to help raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren grow in her image.

She never was one to follow convention, but she taught us to respect and have grace. Louise loved God and bible studies with her friends but was not much for organized religion. She is now in commune with God, her father, mother, and the rest of the family that she loved.

On October 18, 2021 she joined her parents, John Louis Elsea and Rachel Cox Elsea; her husband, Thomas Edmond Alair, Sr.; daughter Nancy Alair Denton; sons, Thomas Edmond Alair, Jr., and John Raymond Alair who preceded her in death.

She leaves a healthy fan club of one son, James David Alair, daughter-in-law, Mendy Alair; seven grandchildren, Guy Thomas Denton, Amanda Jon Hill, Thomas Edmond Alair, III, Rachelle Louise Stevenson, Meredith Kae Maddox, William David Alair, and Jesse Smith Alair; cousin Jane Ogletree; 15 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. We love her deeply and each in our own way.

We will miss her humor, intellect, and grace. We will honor her at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at a graveside service at the Springlake/Earth Cemetery, followed by a gathering to celebrate her uniqueness at the First Baptist Church of Springlake.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Widows Fund at the First Baptist Church of Springlake. Donations can be made at the time of service or check mailed to 213 US-70, Springlake, TX 79082.
