Workforce Solutions South Plains (WSSP) is proud to expand its no-cost training opportunities for our community via the Metrix E-Learning System with the launch of SkillUp South Plains, an initiative sponsored by the South Plains Workforce Development Board and the Texas Workforce Commission.

Beginning November 15, SkillUp South Plains will be available to all residents in our 15-county service area, offering free access to the nationally recognized SkillSoft courses, developed by industry-leading learning experts. The Metrix E-Learning System provides courses that teach skills employers are looking for, as well as offering Texans the ability to explore career pathways in over 200 occupations.

“The Metrix online learning system is a great tool for residents of the South Plains to learn new skills and earn certifications in many different areas,” said Chief Executive Officer of Workforce Solutions South Plains, Martin Aguirre. “It is accessible around the clock to anyone with highspeed internet access. People can work at their own pace through a variety of courses that teach both technical and soft skills.”

SkillUp South Plains provides a free license to users for six months, or 180 days, in which time residents can complete as many courses as they would like. Through this online system, residents can learn about the skills required for in-demand careers and receive a personalized training plan from a catalog of over 5,500 courses such as: business, information technology, manufacturing, customer services, retail finance, and much more.

“So far, the Texas Workforce Commission’s partnership with Metrix Learning has provided more than 80,000 Texans the opportunity to gain new skills and prepare for exciting career opportunities – all at no cost to them,” says Courtney Arbour, Director of the Workforce Development Division of the Texas Workforce Commission. “We are proud to continue these efforts in coordination with Workforce Solutions South Plains through the launch of SkillUp South Plains. Our local workforce partners are key to ensuring Texans access the workforce services that help them best prepare for the next step in their careers.”

Participants receive digital badges or certificates as they complete each training session and can link directly to www.indeed.com to search current local job openings.

“Metrix is a cost-effective opportunity for people to develop certificate-based job skills and upgrade their existing skill levels without additional expenses for travel, childcare, and program fees,” said Martin Aguirre.

Whether you are looking to increase your skills, change industries, find a new career, or gain better employment in a highdemand industry, SkillUp South Plains offers resources to deliver solutions, including to local job postings and workforce services through WSSP.
