Blackstone wins week 10 Football Contest

Week 10 is in the books, leaving just one more week of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest.

This week’s winner with a mark of 17-3, was Thomas Blackstone.

Second place was a tie between Alma Castillo, Brenda Herrell, Chris Ruiz, David Neinast, Ivan Estrada and Terrill Moorhead, who all finished 16-4 this week.

The tie-breaker was the combined score of the Steelers and Browns game, which was 25 points. There was a three-way tie for the contestant with the closest guess for the points, so the second and third place winnings will be combined and divided evenly among the three contestants, which are Ivan Estrada, Brenda Herrell and David Neinast, who all guessed 43 points.

In the high school ranks, New Home took down Bovina, 21-14, while Stratford shut out Vega, 35- 0. Panhandle snuck by Farwell, 36- 35, while Hereford took down Pampa, 56-23, and Anton downed Amherst, 76-38, to stay unbeaten on the season.

Olton shutout West Texas, 49- 0, at home, while Sudan took down Smyer, 32-14, to win their second game in a row. Springlake-Earth held off Nazareth, 54-50, while Bushland took it to Littlefield, 62- 26

İn the college ranks, Georgia took down Florida, 34-7, while Wisconsin pulled an upset over Iowa, 27-7. Michigan State rallied back to upset Michigan, 37-33, while Notre Dame held off a late comeback from North Carolina, 44- 34. Baylor rallied back to avoid an upset against Texas, 31-24.

In the NFL, the Broncos downed Washington, 17-10, while the Rams took down the Texans, 38-22, and the Cowboys outlasted the Vikings, 20-16. The Saints took down the Buccaneers after losing starting quarterback Jameis Winston for the year, 36-27, and the Eagles blasted the Lions, 44-6.

Those who finished 15-5 this week were Bobby Cunningham, Donna Neinast, Jan Smith, Kay Cloninger, Lonnie Neinast, Marcelino Castillo, Martin Duran, Robin Elliott, Sam Castillo and Charlie Smith.

14-6 finishers this week were Ed Dabrowski, JR Herrell, Oscar Sanchez, Stevy Smith and Tommy Cloninger, while Devin Garcia, Dewayne Hayes, Jimmy Davis Sr., Marcelino Garcia Jr., Marcus Garcia and Richard Orozco each finished 13-7.

Those who finished 12-8 this week were Floyce Pierce, Larry Ashley, Lyndel Evans, Martin Duran Jr. and Teresa Dabrowski, while Jim Davis Jr., and Johhny Rosemond each finished 11-9 this week.

In the overall standings, Donna Neinast sits in first place with 148 points, while Estrada follows close behind in second place with 146 points and David Neinast in third place with 145 points.

Lonnie Neinast and Sanchez are tied for fourth with 144 points, while Kay Cloninger and Tommy Cloninger are tied for fifth with 143 points. Evans is in sixth with 141 points, while Moorhead is in seventh place with 140 points.

Garcia Jr. is in eighth with 139 points, while Blackstone and JR Herrell are tied for ninth with 136 points and Jan Smith rounds out the top 10 with 135 points.
