To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD:

The Wildcat Band competed on Saturday, October 23 at Plains Capital Park in Lubbock, Texas for the right to advance to the State UIL Marching Contest in early November. Although the Band didn’t qualify for State, I was very proud of our students, staff, and parents who exhibited “Wildcat Pride” throughout the entire day. Kudos to Ms. A, Ms. Muela, and Ms. Cook on a fabulous job directing our students! Kudos to all Littlefield High School Band members for your time and effort leading up to this competition. Finally, A Big “Thank You” to all the parents who helped with the Band this year. YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

The “Guardian Program” was discussed at our October 19, 2021 meeting. This will be an action item on the November 15, 2021 meeting to approve this program for Littlefield Independent School District. I will be addressing this item more in the future as we begin putting this program in place!

Congratulations to Breanna Acevedo and Omar Martinez on representing Littlefield High School in an exemplary manner at the Regional Cross Country meet in Lubbock, Texas. LISD IS PROUD OF YOU!

This is a note from Jenna Ozbirn who is our Nurse for the High School and Junior High, along with teaching three classes at the High School. This is the second year that Littlefield High School has offered the Patient Care Technician course to senior students. A patient care technician is a healthcare technician that works under the supervision of a nurse, doctor, or other health professional to administer basic care to patients. This position involves interacting with patient’s face-to-face and providing assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, mobility, acts as a companion, and a liaison for the patient, collections samples such as blood and urine, and perform electrocardiograms. This class is a two period block where we do lecture and then hands on skills with mannequins and classmates. Throughout the year, the students will also do clinical rotations at Covenant Hospital in Levelland to learn firsthand and to put what they have learned in class to use in a real life setting. The students will have an opportunity to get three certifications at the end of the year; Patient Care Technician Certification, Phlebotomy Certification, and Electrocardiography Certification. The students will take their three certification exams at school in April. Once they have obtained at least one of the three certifications, they will be able to work in a variety of healthcare settings where nurses or doctors need assistance. This could include hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, dialysis clinics, home health agencies, and many more. This is a great opportunity for students to get a jump start in the healthcare field if they wish to pursue nursing or some other medical degree. This could also be a great opportunity for those that do not have plans to attend college. These students could leave high school with a well-paying trait and skill that equips them with the opportunity to work in many different settings.

The Human Body Systems class is an Approved Innovative Course according to the Texas Education Agency. Throughout this course, students examine the interactions of body systems as they explore the biological identity, communication, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis. Through individual and team activities, projects, and problems, the students design experiments, investigate the structures, functions of the human body, and how the systems work cohesively. The students are also making a ‘body poster’ as the year progressives and as they learn each body system. The body poster consists of their outlined body and as they learn each system, they are drawing the system onto their body poster.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching the health science classes. My passion and calling has always been in the medical/healthcare field. With teaching these classes, I hope to share that passion and hope it will be contagious to my students. I have worked as a Registered Nurse in a variety of healthcare settings since 2011 when I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from West Texas A&M. In 2019, I graduated with my Masters of Science in Nursing from Lubbock Christian University.

Thank you, Jenna for all that you do for our LHS students!
