Olton looking for homecoming victory over Longhorns

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team dropped a close contest to Bovina on Friday, 14-12.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-2 overall on the season.

In the opening quarter, Olton took the lead as freshman quarterback, Jack Allcorn, connected with senior wide receiver, Zach Ramage, for a 58-yard touchdown pass, making the score, 6-0, after the failed two point conversion.

In the second quarter, Jadon Quintana would return a fumble 72-yards for a Bovina touchdown, but a failed two-point conversion left the game tied, 6-6.

However, junior running back, Zane Gunter, would find the end zone on a three-yard score, putting Olton up, 12-6, going into the locker room at halftime.

Bovina would score the only points of the second half in the third quarter, as Quintana connected with David Lara for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Marco Sanchez would run it in for the two-point conversion and those two points proved to be the difference in the game.

Olton finished with 267 yards of total offense, including 108 passing yards and 159 rushing yards.

Allcorn finished the game nine-of-22 passing for 108 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He also added 11 carries for 38 yards.

Gunter led the rushing attack for Olton with 23 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown, while Michael Muse added five carries for 12 yards and Ramage added one carry for 11 yards.

Ramage led the receiving game for Olton with four catches for 78 yards and one touchdown, while Joaquin Sanchez finished with one catch for nine yards and Gunter added one catch for two yards.
