Ogallala aquifer field day Oct. 27 at Hereford

Hereford will host a timely and vital Ogallala aquifer field day October 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hereford Civic Center.

"Coming Together Around the Water Table" is the theme for the day-long event that is the final session in over a month of Regenerate 2021 field days being hosted by a collaboration of Holistic Management International, the Quivira Coalition, and the American Grassfed Association.

Topics for the field days are re lated to the overall theme of "Weaving Water, Land, and People."

Playa basin management will be discussed during the Oct. 27 Field day at Hereford.

An array of state and nationally prominent and regional speakers will share their ideas on furthering the future of agriculture and the Ogallala aquifer in the region at the Hereford session.

The hosting organizations are working with farmers and ranchers across the U.S. as they open up their operations to share best management practices, technical services, market and value chain roles and current research concerning their sites’ holistic management and operation practices.

Registration deadline is Oct. 20, 2021.

"We invite landowners, farmers and ranchers, and concerned individuals to come hear about their High Plains successes and explore how producers might want to try out some of the practical techniques, with little risk,” said Wayne Knight, Interim Executive Director and Certified Educator with Holistic Management International.

In addition to Knight, other presenters include:

• Dr. Richard Teague, who will discuss Planned Grazing for soil health.

• Francisco Abello, who will speak on trends and implications of local and global water shortages.

• R.N. Hopper and Dr. Chris Grotegut, will provide a "skin-in-the game" local perspective. Both will cover steps on how producers can use less water, capture more water, and gain more profits
