Alois William Duesterhaus of Shallowater, TX, was born in Rhineland, TX, to Alois August and Emma Ann Duesterhaus on June 18, 1941. His family moved to Pep, TX, when he was in the third grade, and he graduated from Pep High School in 1959. Al married Jane Rose Albus on August 31, 1968, and he found employment in several jobs from wheat harvesting crew to carpentry to propane and tire service before starting his long career in farming. Al devoted 43 years to farming and remained active in farming for several years after his retirement.

Al is survived by his beloved four children, Corey and his wife, DaLinda of Shallowater, TX, Brendan and his wife, Stacy of Lemoore, CA, Jamey of Spade, TX, and Alisha and her husband, Robby of Shallowater, TX. His smile grew even brighter with the addition of his seven grandchildren; Lindsey and her husband, Chase Ortega, Tara, Bethany, and Camryn Duesterhaus, and Will, Len, and Wes Carlson, all of Shallowater, TX. “PaPa” supported them in all their events, activities, and accomplishments. Al is also survived by sisters, Annette Brown, Rose Ball, Sharon Petitt, Gail Day, and brother, Tony Duesterhaus.

Al was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jan; his parents, Alois “Ling” and Emma; his sisters, Emma Jane Fetsch, Ruthie Brown, Theresa Valdez, and brother, Ernest Duesterhaus; parents-in-law, Fred and his cherished, Rose.

“PaPa Willie” loved to joke with, “pick on”, and laugh with all of his nieces and nephews, giving each one a special nickname. He also cherished his memories with a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles, Godchildren, and family friends. Al and Jane accepted all invitations to attend and celebrate life events of all these loved ones.

Al had a strong Catholic faith, a devotion to the rosary, and loved to sing in the choir. His favorite pastimes were making sausage and panhas, cooking, fishing, dove hunting with family and friends, camping, attending horse show competitions, and, above all, helping others in need. He was larger than life, loved telling jokes and laughing loud. Al loved with all his heart and had the gift to make everyone feel loved and welcomed.

Al passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on March 21, 2021.

Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
