Mustangs 5-0 for first time in modern era

The Olton Musatngs’ varsity football team is off to their first 5-0 start in the modern era, after a, 64-0, beat down of Shamrock last Friday night.

Olton totaled 453 yards of offense, including 261 rushing yards and 192 passing yards.

Jett Tomsu got the Mustangs off and running in the opening quarter with a four-yard touchdown run, followed by the PAT from Santiago Jimenez was no good leaving the score, 6-0. Later in the quarter, Brady Azam connected with Rylan Holmes on an eight-yard touchdown pass and the PAT by Santiago Jimenez was good, making the score, 130.

Olton would push stretch their lead again, as Azam scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Santiago Jimenez ran in the two-point conversion to extend their lead to, 21-0. Azam would connect with Holmes on back-toback possessions to close out the quarter, one for a 15yard touchdown the other a 43-yard touchdown, pushing their lead to, 35-0, after the PAT’s from Santiago Jimenez, as the first quarter came to a close.

Erick Sanchez punch in a two-yard touchdown run to open the scoring in the second quarter, followed by the PAT, stretching the lead to, 42-0. The defense would get in on the scoring, as Callen Burns dropped the Irish for a safety to push the lead to, 440. Later in the second frame, Azam found Rigo Galvan for a 29-yard touchdown pass, making the score, 50-0, after the missed PAT.

Zayden Falcon would close out the first half with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Azam, followed by the PAT to extend their lead to, 57-0, going into the locker room at halftime.

Tomsu would score on a six-yard run in the third quarter, as Olton blasted the Irish, 64-0.

Offensively, Azam finished the game, 9-11 passing for 192 yards and five touchdowns, while adding two carries for eight yards and a score on the ground.

Tomsu led the rushing attack with 20 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns, while Sanchez added 10 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown. Callen Burns chipped in three carries for 39 yards.

The receiving attack was led by Holmes, who hauled in five catches for 107 yards and three scores, while Falcon chipped in one catch for 34 yards and a touchdown, and Galvan tallied one catch for 29 yards and a touchdown.
