Fillie 12u Softball team competes at Babe Ruth Softball World Series

    The Olton Fillies 12U All-Star softball team competed at the Babe Ruth Softball World Series in Florence, Alabama, last week.

    The Fillies qualified for the World Series back in June, when they won the Babe Ruth Softball State Tournament that was held in Brownfield, Texas.

    The Fillies began pool play on July 26th, when they fell to Hamilton County, 32, and Jamesville, 5-4. However, they would bounce back on July 27th, when they tied with Gloucester, 44. The Fillies picked up their first win of the tournament in a, 6- 4, victory over Shallowater on July 28th, before falling to Puerto Rico on July 29th, 6-0.

    The Fillies closed out pool play with a, 10-4, victory over Florence on July 29th.

    Bracket play began on July 30th, as the Fillies picked up a, 5-1, victory over Gloucester, before falling to Mexico, 8-0. Olton would get back into the win column in their third game of the day, taking down Florence, 4-3. Play resumed on Friday, July 31st, where the Fillies fell to Stamford, 5-0, before taking down Shallowater, 43. In their final game of the tournament, Olton fell to Florence, 2-0 on August 1st.

    Several Fillies made it on to the leader boards in various categories, including Bailee Synatschk, who led the tournament in putouts, with 98. Dailee Jo DeBerry was third on the leader board in ERA, posting a 1.63, while Zay’Lynn Guerrero was second in triples for the tournament with three.

    Dailee Jo DeBerry finished second in strikeouts with 47, followed by Dawsyn DeBerry, who posted 36 strikeouts in the pitching circle.
