The Littlefield High School gym bustled with activity on April 1, 2026, as voting for cheer tryouts, the introduction of the new student council and class officers and the annual cake auction took place.
Three mascots and 23 students tried out for a spot on the junior varsity or varsity squad.
The members of the junior varsity cheer squad are Zoey Cristan, Zalise Davis, Bella Enole, Alyson Hernandez, Nayeli Mata, Yanelee Montoya, Esy Partidge and Mia Tijerina. The junior varsity mascot is Mylah Sanders.
Members of the varsity cheer squad are Piper Carr, Adrianna Caudillo, Anali Jasso, Arian MacDonald, Adyleigh Rodriguez, Cobi Saldana, Meghan Seymore and London Taylor. The varsity mascot is Rhealee Golden.
Following the tryouts, students running for student council or class officer positions introduced themselves to the student body. All of the candidates ran uncontested, earning them their respective positions.
Student council and class officers include: Rhealee Golden, StuCo President and Senior Class Vice President; Alexis Garza, StuCo Secretary and Senior Class President; Sammy Saenz, StuCo Vice President and Junior Class President; Piper Carr, Junior Class Vice President; Jacob Fuentes, StuCo Environment and Energy Representative and Sophomore Class President; Adyleigh Rodriguez, StuCo Pride and Patriotism Representative and Sophomore Class Vice President; and Nayeli Mata, StuCo D.A.S.H. Representative and Sophomore Class Secretary.
“This is a good group of officers,” Charissa Golden, the Littlefield High School Student Council Advisor, said. “They’re all very energetic and ready to serve.”
Golden said she aspires to utilize her officers’ ideas and participate in more community service projects this year.
After the officer introductions, the annual cake auction commenced. Documented as far back as the 60s in Littlefield yearbooks, the cake auction tradition initially raised money for a Make-A-Wish initiative.
After the COVID- 19 pandemic, the fundraiser shifted to ‘Wildcat Wish,’ a new tradition that directly helped community members.
This year’s proceeds are being donated to Renee Martin after the passing of her husband, Ronnie Martin.
“He’s a long-time employee and the voice of the Wildcats,” Golden said. “The StuCo officers asked if we could donate the money to her to help pay for medical expenses.”
In total, the auction raised $11,800. The highest cake bid sold for $1,300.
“We truly appreciate the support of the community and the businesses that come out and bid on these cakes, (which) makes it so life-changing for these recipients,” Golden said. “I know when this first started, the cakes went for a lot less, and now it’s grown. We truly appreciate their donations to Wildcat Wish.”
