In Loving Memory Of Joe Weldon Swan
July 3, 1934 ~ March 27, 2026
Joe Weldon Swan, 91, of Anton passed away Friday, March 27, 2026 at home. He was born July 3, 1934 in Dunn, Texas to Thurber Taylor "TT" and Estelle (Thomas) Swan.
Weldon graduated from Snyder High School. After graduation he attended Texas Tech University where he was on the Rodeo Team. He married his love, Connie McDaniel on November 12, 1953 in Snyder. In 1965 the couple moved to the Anton community where they raised their family. Weldon was a farmer for many years and was very progressive with his agriculture ideals. He operated the first eight row planter in the area and owned the first center pivot. In 1981 he retired from farming and started a trucking business, Swan Trucking. He was a hard working man who stayed busy even in his later years. If he wasn't working in the field he could often be found in his shop tinkering around. Weldon could work on anything, from automobiles to tractors. Those who knew him would say he had a ornery streak, but he had a gentle heart and was always helping people in the best way he knew how, by fixing their cars or machinery often times at no charge. He had a servants heart, serving at Anton First Baptist Church as a deacon and several other positions as needed. He also served on the Hockley County Junior Livestock Show Board of Directors for several years. He was affectionately known as "Paw" or "Paw Paw" by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons, Charlie Swan and wife, Chloe of Anton, Rusty Swan and wife, Sherri of Lubbock and Steve Swan and wife, Kay of Monahans, Texas; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Gwen Herring of Fluvanna, Texas; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Swan in 2017; his daughter, Kelli Swan in 2024; sister, Carla Smith; and his parents.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Anton with Herb Roever officiating. Interment followed in Anton cemetery with Brad Swan, Jarrod Swan, Clayton Swan, Dan Buck, Dustin Dierschke and Chase Black serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to say a special "Thank you" to Frances Mitchell and Sparkle Douglas for the wonderful care they gave their dad.
Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
