Lamb County 4-H members recently returned from an impactful leadership experience at the District 2 4-H Power Camp, held at the High Plains Retreat Center. The event, designed to cultivate leadership skills among senior 4-H members, offered participants a variety of team building and leadership development activities and a chance to take the next step in their 4-H journeys.
Three campers represented Lamb County at this year’s camp, including senior 4-H member Ty Carr, who made a lasting impression during the council elections. Carr ran for a position on the District 2 4-H Council, undergoing a rigorous selection process that included interviews with 4-H leaders, leading a leadership activity, and delivering a campaign speech to fellow campers.
His efforts paid off and Ty Carr was elected as the 2025–2026 District 2 4-H President and will also serve on the Texas 4-H State Council.
“I am excited and honored to be elected as the District 2 4-H President,” Carr said. “I look forward to working with the council and putting on and helping with different events in our district.”
The camp also featured interactive leadership sessions that left lasting impressions on attendees.
“The team building, and leadership exercises were very intuitive this year,” said JT Burt, a senior 4-H member. “And with so many upcoming freshmen, I think they had a big impact on them to become leaders and keep pursuing 4-H.”
Intermediate 4- H member Valaree Harper echoed those sentiments, especially impressed by the leadership shown during the council elections. “I was impacted most by the leadership activities led by the District 2 4-H Council candidates,” she said. “We really get to see what kind of leader they will be and how comfortable they are with members. I also love getting inspiration for activities I can do in my future 4-H career!”
Power Camp continues to be a key event for cultivating the next generation of 4-H leaders, and Lamb County’s participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm and potential for leading not just locally, but across the district and state.
