Rachel Holmes Long passed from this life Monday, November 11, 2024, following a brief illness. Services were held Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024, at Sunset Baptist Church in Littlefield with Brother Bryant Sears officiating. Burial was at Allen's Point Cemetery, North of Honey Grove, Texas.

Rachel was born to Bula and Clarence Apples on December 22, 1934, in Bartley Woods, Texas. She married Leroy Holmes on January 23, 1952, in Honey Grove, Texas. Following his death she married JE Long on January 13, 1969, in Spade, Texas. She loved her home and enjoyed tending to it, always keeping it spotless and clean. She had a caretaker's heart and found joy in taking care of those around her, which is why she found fulfillment in her many years working as a Home Health Nurse for the Littlefield Hospital. She liked camping in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She loved flowers and enjoyed having her nails painted. She loved her kids and her grandchildren dearly and was affectionately known to them as "Nunnie".

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Marvin Adams; her sister, Betty Hiberd; her first husband, Leroy Holmes; stepson, Bryne Long; and her second husband, JE Long.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Ray and husband, Kenneth, Cheryl Godwin and husband, Sam all of Littlefield, Texas, and Jaton Long Wright and husband, Kenny of Spade. She has four grandchildren, Kyle Ray and wife, Stormy of Amarillo, Michelle Martinez and husband, Chris of Lubbock, Amy Jones and husband, Marty of Littlefield, and Lacy Phillips and husband, Justin of Lubbock. Eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Pallbearers were Kyle Ray, Marty Jones, Justin Phillips, Chris Martinez, Kobe Ray, Mason Jones and Brandon Castillo. Honorary pallbearers were Knox Phillips and Logan Jones.

In leu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Sunset Ave. Baptist Church of Littlefield (710 W Sunset Ave, Littlefield, Texas 79339) A very special thank you to Interim Hospice of Levelland. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas.
