Well, here is a voice from the past that I hope you have missed. I know that I have missed writing an article for the newspaper and telling you all something you want to hear, but then, more bad luck things have happened than a normal person can keep up with – but then, no-one ever said that I was normal.
As everyone knows (unless you have been lost in the Universe), we lost the Duggan House for our wonderful museum last year. We did have a wonderful person come to our rescue though, and this is where the going gets rough. Floors, electricity, doors, paint, and just plain ole maintenance had to be done before we could open. Through the fault of absolutely NO-ONE, it seems as though every time we would start one repair job, something would go wrong. I don’t mean we would find more wrong, I just mean that something would go wrong. My favorite helper would end up in the hospital, have a pace-maker put in, and then that would fail or something, and he wouldn’t get to do the things he wanted to do such as paint, and install things that his health would prevent him from doing anything.
Then, the heat, you couldn’t breathe for how hot it was and not being able to count on the AC working really good, you couldn’t do anything. Then the workers we would hire would have things come up that you couldn’t avoid and be unable to finish the job. Then new workers would come and start in and end up in the Hospital, or trucks would break down or something else would go wrong. This was MURPHY’S LAW at it’s best.
Then, I had to go and fall and break my right Fermor bone, end up in surgery, then rehab, now home, but unable to do anything like stand up by myself so I am useless. And Rumors, Oh My Goodness, such Rumors…. BUT, we will survive and be better than ever.
We have already gotten more donations to show that are greatly appreciated, and we will have more because we have MORE space and can spread out our things so that they are more visible. I have heard it said that the Museum was cluttered, BUT, we didn’t have any room to spread out like we do now.
Another thing, since we lost The Duggan House, we can no longer be the Duggan House Museum, so we will be changing our name to the LITTLEFIELD LANDS MUSEUM. Or, if anyone has a better idea, just let me know. After all, Nothing is set in stone.
Did I mention that we will be in the old WARE’S building, so we are still in a Historical building. It will be so great to finally be open and see all the old faces and meet new faces that I can hardly wait. It will be at least October before I can drive myself or move around without a walker or wheelchair, but that time will come. I am not giving up on our MUSEUM, because it is part of YOUR past and HERITAGE and I want it to continue forever.
Let me know your feelings on the matter and keep sending those donations. wge A meeting of the Lamb County Commissioners’ Court will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2024, in the Lamb County Courthouse, where a 14—item agenda will be considered for appropriate action.
