Anona (Williams) Roberts, 87, was born to Robert Delwin Williams and Doyle Ethel (Bennett) Williams on October 9, 1936 on the family farm 3-1/2 miles southwest of Littlefield, Texas. She passed from this life Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Anona attended Littlefield schools and graduated from Littlefield High School in 1954. She married Jerry Roberts on June 2, 1954 in Littlefield. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in June.
Anona was a hardworking, highly respected and dedicated healthcare administrator working for 42 years combined at Littlefield Hospital and Clinic, Covenant Medical Center and LHC Family Medicine.
She was a member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years. She volunteered at South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for several years. She loved being outdoors, working in her yard and birdwatching. She and Jerry would spend countless hours watching birds in their sunroom. She was a bit of a world traveler as well and visited many interesting places such as Mexico, Scandinavia, Australia, Western Europe and Alaska. She especially enjoyed going on road trips to Las Vegas, Ruidoso and Laughlin with Jerry. One of her favorite places to visit was Portal, Arizona because of the abundant bird watching and beautiful scenery offered there.
She was a talented seamstress making her own wedding dress and most of the cute outfits she dressed her daughters in for many years. She made Christmas stockings for every grandkid and great grandkid which are treasured keepsakes. She was a wonderful cook and made the best Thanksgiving dressing. Her grandchildren spent many Christmas seasons with her in the kitchen making candy and other goodies. The thing she loved to do most however was spend time with her family and be Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Above all else she was a devoted and faithful Christian who led by example.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Roberts; daughter, Lisa Matthews and husband, Marvin of Spade, daughter, Lori Madry and husband, Mike of Denison, Texas; a brother, Jon Williams of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Rocky Williams II, Alice Phillips, Bonnie Cook and husband, Chad of Corpus Christi, Sara Miller and husband, Adam of Houston, Shayla Pattillo and husband, Chase of Austin, Morgan Madry of Denison, Landon Madry and wife, Amber of Wylie and Clay Madry of Royse City; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bennett Williams; and an infant son, Scott.
A memorial service will be held at Crescent Park Church of Christ, Littlefield on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Littlefield EMS (PO Box 1267, Littlefield TX 79339) or New Mexico Children's Home (1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130).
