Floy Leabelle (Sluder) Finch, of Ponder, formerly of Dalhart, passed away on June 19, 2024.
Floy Leabelle Sluder Finch was born in Olton, TX on April 7, 1936, to Tom Sluder and Floy (Wozencraft) Sluder. She graduated from Olton High School Class of 1954 and went to West Texas State College, earning her bachelor’s degree of Science in Home Economics with a multilevel teacher certificate. Leabelle met Orville Henry Finch while teaching in Dalhart in 1958 and they were married on February 28, 1960.
Leabelle was a member of Central United Methodist Church She volunteered at Allyn Finch Intermediate School in the HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) reading program, and 50 years with the Las Viajeras, Texas Federation of Women’s Club.
Leabelle was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a daughter. She is survived by her son; two sisters; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Leabelle’s life was held Thursday morning, June 27, 2024 at Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart with Pastor Ryan Strebeck officiating. Burial was in Dalhart City Cemetery. Arrangements were by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart.
