Carmaleta Barnett, 90, of Olton, died Friday, December 22, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Olton, with Brother David Azam officiating and under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Carmaleta Faye was born December 8, 1933, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, to John William and Linnie (Lyon) Campbell. She graduated from Olton High School in 1950. She earned her bachelor’s degree from West Texas State College, and later earned her master’s degree from West Texas University. On May 21, 1955, Carmaleta married Dennison J. “Denny” Barnett. A teacher for over 50 years, Carmaleta served school districts in Springlake-Earth, Littlefield, Olton, Midland, and Lubbock. She enjoyed needle point.
