The American Shorthorn Association Awards hosted their Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 22, 2023, at the Hilton Kansas City Airport in Kansas City, MO. Mary Hinton Bass of Olton, Texas, was honored as a 2023 Heritage Award Winner.

Lamb County Elections Administrator, Tonya Ritchie, has issued a reminder for residents of Lamb County that filing for the 2024 party primaries is open and several offices will appear on the ballot for March 5, 2024.

The U. S Department of Agriculture (USDA) will provide more than $3 billion to commodity and specialty crop producers impacted by natural disaster events in 2022. Eligible impacted producers can apply for financial assistance through the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) 2022. The program will help offset the financial impacts of crop yield and value losses from qualifying disasters occurring in 2022.

USDA recently announced Weaned Calf Risk Protection, a new insurance option for livestock producers in several states. This policy, offered by USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA), offers Actual Production History (APH) coverage for beef cow-calf producers to insure revenue from their spring calving operations.

Since 2006, Cotton Incorporated’s Blue Jeans Go Green program has collected denim (made from cotton) so it can be recycled back to its original fiber state and transformed into something new. To date, the program has diverted 2,100-plus tons of denim from landfills and recycled more than 4 million pieces of denim.

It was a crazy week with the U.S. government in full force amid yet again another possible government shutdown. Thankfully, a stopgap spending measure was passed in both chambers with President Biden signing the legislation on November 16. PCG CEO Kody Bessent and National Cotton Council Chairman and Dawson County Producer Shawn Holladay were on the Hill this week as well, advocating for the Farm Bill and adjustments to the 2022 Emergency Relief Program.
