The HPWD Board of Directors met September 8 to conduct the following business: • Approved the Consent Agenda (Minutes, Financial Report, and Bill Payment List). • Approved applications for water well permits received during August 2020.

That was an abrupt end to summer. We are fortunate that we only dipped to 38 degrees, as compared to at or nearer freezing not too far north of us.

HPWD Board Lowers the 2020 Tax Rate

During their Sept. 8 meeting, the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) Board of Directors approved a resolution setting the 2020 ad valorem tax rate at $.0055 per $100 valuation for operation and maintenance of the district.

From the Texas Water Development Board’s Water Weekly Approximately 55 percent of Texas is impacted by drought as of September 1, 2020. This compares to 57 percent a week ago, 14 percent three months ago, and 43 percent a year ago.

DAVE GRUVER’S ROTARY PROGRAM

At noon Thursday, Sept 10, Dave Gruver presented the program for the day, following the regular business meeting, led by President Jason Hunter. Dave talked about the upcoming 9-11-2001 anniversary that was observed the next day on Friday, as Patriot Day in the United States. He also described several things that happened in the unusual year of 1968. The importance of voting, as related to the Electorial College for national elections, was explained to the Rotarians.
