Rapid Testing Program for front line workers of small businesses is extend

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) announced on January 22, the expansion of the COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program for front line workers at Texas small businesses by dedicating 1 million BinaxNow Rapid Tests to the program. The COVID-19 Small Business Rapid Testing Program launched in December as a pilot program and has helped small businesses throughout the state conduct rapid tests on employees to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

County’s unemployment rate at 6.0% for December

AUSTIN — (Jan. 22, 2021) Texas added 64,200 total non-agricultural jobs over the month of December, 2020, marking the eighth consecutive month ofjob growth in Texas. The Texas unemployment rate for December 2020 was 7.2%, down from 8.1 % in November 2020.

Texas looks to add congressional seats after 2020 census

Texas could gain three seats in Congress after adding more than 4 million people over the last 10 years, according to testimony offered before the Senate Special Committee on Redistricting Monday. Delays in federal data collection and reporting and the COVID-19 pandemic will complicate and delay the process of drawing new congressional and state legislative districts. Estimates offered by state demographer Dr. Lloyd Potter indicate a larger, more diverse state population than in 2010.
