The 47th Anniversary of National Volunteer Week, April 18 – 24, 2021, is spotlighting the many millions of volunteers all across the country, and particularly those in Lamb County, both youth and adult, who serve as club and project leaders, for the 4-H Youth Development Program this year.

USDA encourages the public to protect plants against invasive pests in April

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared April 2021 as Invasive Plant Pest and Disease Awareness Month (IPPDAM). The national outreach initiative enlists the public in the fight against invasive pests. These damaging invaders threaten our nation’s food crops, forests and natural resources. IPPDAM aims to raise public awareness about this threat, which can devastate agriculture, livelihoods and food security.

USDA Forecasts 2021 Cotton Acreage

The latest estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Prospective Plantings Report, re-leased March 31, shows no increase in Texas planted acreage in upland cotton for 2021. Texas upland cotton planted acres is forecast at 6.8 million acres. Planting of Pima cotton is predicted estimated to be a total of 20 thousand acres, which is 47 percent below 2020.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture has announced that it is “Wild About Amherst!”, and has scheduled its “40th Annual Amherst Chamber Banquet” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2012, in the Amherst School Cafeteria.

Employers may honor assistants with baskets

Littlefield Rotary Club hasmade the decision to not host the Administrative Day Luncheon in April, due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. Rotary, however, is currently selling “spa baskets” for $25 that employers may purchase to honor their assistants.

PROGRAM FOR EARLY RISERS LIONS – Tuesday morning, April 13, 2021, Jimmy Thomas, the new Littlefield head football coach and AD, visited the Early Risers Lions Club and gave an updte on the athletic program. He brings many years of coaching experience to Littlefield and is very optimistic about the future of the boys’ and girls’ teams.
