As temperatures begin to warm across the Texas High Plains, many gardeners are eager to get back outdoors and start spring planting. However, knowing what to plant and when, can be challenging in our region.
The Texas High Plains presents a unique set of growing conditions. Persistent winds, low humidity, intense summer heat, and limited, often unpredictable rainfall can make gardening more difficult than in other parts of the state. Successful gardening here requires careful timing, crop selection, and an understanding of our local climate.
Fortunately, the Lubbock Master Gardener Association (LMGA) has developed monthly planting guides tailored specifically to the Texas High Plains. These guides outline what vegetables, flowers, and other plants are best suited for planting each month, helping gardeners make informed decisions throughout the year.
In addition to planting calendars, LMGA offers a wide range of educational resources, monthly classes, and access to knowledgeable subject-matter experts. Whether you are new to gardening or have years of experience, these tools can help improve success in your landscape or garden.
