Thursday evening, April 21, 2022, Texas Producers Cooperative Gins of Amherst and Sudan, hosted a Stockholders Dinner and the 2022 Annual Business Meeting in the Lamb County Ag and Community Center.

The meal of chicken, fish and shrimp, with hush puppies, cole slaw, potato salad, red beans, condiments and desserts, was catered by River Smith’s Catering of Lubbock.

Business meeting

Board President Bryan Baker called the business meeting to order, and asked Calvin Vernon to offer the opening prayer, and lead the audience in reciting “The Lord’s Prayer,” from Matthew 6:9-13

Ḃrent Nelson, Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors, read the minutes of the April 22, 2021 meeting from last year, and they were approved as read. Representatives from PCCA, the Cotton Oil Mill, Cotton Compress and Plains Cotton Growers were invited to address the congregation, and they each thanked the Cooperative for its support of their businesses, and offered to assist the Cooperative when they were needed.

Manager’s Presentation

Texas Cooperative’s Manager Guyle Roberson presented information about the past year’s cotton crop and results of the ginning .

Members learned that the Co operative had ginned 98,611 bales of the county’s 2021 year cotton crop.

On a screen, Roberson showed that the Cooperative is returning $26.55 per bale cash to each of its stockholders, along with $14.52 of Bale Stock; and $22.00 of Gin Rebate. That’s a total of $63.07 of cash, and stock per bale that was given to the stockholders from the Cooperative.

The average lint turnout for the 2021 cotton was 31.12%, and the Average grade was 52.95.

As the stockholders arrived, most were early enough to receive their dividend checks, before being treated to the free catered meal.

Roberson’s program included the introduction of the staff members of each of the Cooperative’s Departments.

The lists were shown on a screen at the Ag and Community Center.

Store Employees: Terry Peck, Store Manager; Karla Been, Matthew Montoya, Belle Kelley and Jimmy Williams.

Shop Employees: Tim Rodriguez, Shop Manager; David Jimenez, Greg Thorn, Ricardo Garcia, Matthew Paredez, BJ Davila and Joe Smith.

Trucking: Curtis Buhrman, Cory Been, Clifford Conley, Rd Gass and Brent Been.

Business Office: Tara Provence, Tracey Provence, Karen Smith and Andrew Willoughby.

Agronomy: Justin Bellar, Manager; Grayson Polvado, Mike Ramey, Tanner Streety and Michael Bryant.

Ginning: Joe Richards, Clyde Conley, Kaci Coats, Chon Zapata, Jose Mendez, Mary Wallace, Manuel Rios, Gilbert Zapata and Curtis Hard.

Insurance: David McGehee, Seth Sowder, Cheryl Sowder, Jenny Netherland and Zack Goodwin.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Roberson introduced the Board of Directors and expressed his gratitude and appreciation to them for everything they do to make the Cooperative’s program successful.

Officers of The Board of Directors are: Bryan Baker, President; Ronnie Schroeder, Vice-President and PYCO Delegate; Brent Nelson, Secretary-Treasurer and PCG Delegate; and Freddie Maxwell, PCCA & Compress Delegate.

Other Directors are Kris Humphreys, Dale Demel, Bryan Patterson, Randy Gore, and James Synatschk.

Ronnie Schroeder presided for the election of three directors, to fill the seats of whose terms were expiring; They are: Bryan Baker, Dale Demel and Bryan Patterson.

Nominations were made from the audience for each of the three whose terms are expiring, and when the nominations ceased, the three were elected by acclamation, and they will be serving another term.

Cooperative’s Sixth Audit

Gail Faries auditor with D. Williams & Co. gave a quick review of the Sixth Annual Financial Report for Texas Producers Cooperative.

MISSION STATEMENT

Nearing the end of the meeting, Roberson reminded everyone that he always wants to do a good job for his customers.

He highlighted the Mission Statement on the screen, that states:

“To provide superior quality cotton ginning and customer service that emphasizes integrity, and conduct all phases of agribusiness that is responsive to customer needs.”

Guyle’s last recognition on the screen, was an emotional picture of his brother, Randy Roberson, who had worked with him early and through the merger, in making many decisions for the Cooperative. Randy continued his support until his death on Jan. 18, 2022, the day after his 58th birthday.

To conclude the program, Guyle reminded everone to get their checks, if they had not already picked them up.
