Sudan Veterans Remembered and Honored at Sudan High School

Sudan residents and veterans gathered at the Sudan High School Auditorium on November 11 th at 10 a.m. to memorialize the Veterans of Sudan who served in the US Armed Services.

The welcome was given by Jordie Bellar.

Following the presentation by the Sudan Color Guard of the Colors and the Texas Flag, Eddie Estrada and Kara Pierce played TAPS. Ron Sanders led the National Anthem.

Kyndal Edwards then read the Presidential Proclamation. The Sudan Singer Juniors performed “Grand Ole Flag”.

Addison Boehning then presented the Veterans in attendance. Boehning explained; “each candle displayed on the stage is to honor and celebrate the dedication and sacrifice our men and women have so graciously given, allowing the flames of freedom to enlighten our hearts by the footprints they have left on our nation. The Freedom flames symbolize each of our Veterans who have served and passed on before us.” She then asked everyone present to stand for a moment of silence.

The Sudan Veterans Video was then presented. It was a compilation of all of the veterans who have passed away.

Following the Video presentation Braelyn Pointer introduced the keynote speaker for the event, Col. Larry A. Warmoth(ret). Colonel Warmoth graduated from Colorado State University and entered the Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fl. During his naval career, he served as an F-16 pilot after transferring to Lubbock, Tex. He transferred to the Texas Air National Guard and served with the 182 Fighter Squadron, “The Gunfighters.”

He practiced in Lubbock Nephrology and Internal Medicine, holding a number of Medical Staff positions. Col. Warmoth served in the ANG for 25 years after four in the Navy, held several command positions, and then retired in December.

Following Col. Warmoth’s presentation, Bellar introduced the Senior Sudan Singers who performed “Homeward Bound”.

The week before the event, Sudan ISD held a coloring contest for grades Pre-K through Fourth grade. Sixth and seventh grade students wrote essays. Prizes were awarded for third, second, and first place entries, and the first place essays were read to the assembly.

Kenneth Richards then performed “God Bless the USA” and Boehning then closed the event by thanking all for attending and helping us honor the bravest of heroes, our Veterans.
