The Sudan Community’s 33rd annual Memorial Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, at the Sudan Cemetery, located west of the City of Sudan.

Everyone interested is invited to attend, along with the Sudan School students, who will be transported to the cemetery by buses.

In case of bad weather, the service will be conducted in the Sudan High School Auditorium.

If weather permits, graves of veterans will be decorated with flags, and many larger flags will be flying near the Memorial site.

Sam Merryman, Sudan Mayor Pro-Tem, and Memorial Service Program Chairman, will give the welcome, and introduce Terry Wilson, Church of Christ minister, to offer the invocation.

Members of the U.S. Marine Corp’s Color Guard will present the colors, as Merryman leads the audience in reciting the “Pledge of Allegiance”.

The National Anthem will be sung by SHS student, Kimberlee Gonzales, then Kenneth Richards, Sudan singer and musician, will present patriotic music and songs.

Phil Crenshaw, 92, of Lubbock, the sole survivor of Chaplains’ Assistants out of World War II, of all branches of service, will be the featured speaker.

Musical selections will be played by the Sudan High School’s Bold Gold Band.

Robert Roecker, Baptist minister, will give the benediction, prior to the playing of TAPS by students in the Trumpet Section of the Sudan High School Band.

To end the program, the Color Guard of the U.S. Marine Corp will retire the colors.
