Sudan High School’s Academic team competed at the UIL District Academic Meet in Hale Center on March 27, 2025, winning the District Championship for the 3rd consecutive year.
The team earned 850 points across eight categories: number sense, calculator applications, mathematics, current issues and events, computer science, CX debate, one-act play and speech.
For number sense, Caden Edens and Kye Polk earned first and second place, respectively.
Sudan occupied the top four places in the calculator applications contest: Jeffery Neufeld placed first, Kye Polk placed second, Denise Gonzalez placed third and Melanie Gore placed fourth.
Additionally, Sudan dominated the top four places for computer science: Gibson Whittington won first place, Caden Edens placed second, Garicyn Bigham placed third and Denise Gonzalez placed fourth.
Competing in mathematics, Denise Gonzalez placed first and Gibson Whittington placed second.
Bonnie Reese and Jolie Dyck earned first and second place, respectively, for current issues and events.
Twenty-one students are advancing to the regional contest.
“I am especially happy for this group of seniors,” Jonathan Robertson, the team’s Academic Coach, said. “As Freshmen, they missed winning the district championship by 4.5 points. The next year, they earned more district points than any 2A school and more speech team points than any high school in Texas. They never looked back, now winning their 3rd consecutive district championship.”
