Springlake holds annual 4th of July Celebration

Lined up along the U.S. Route 385, classic cars, ATVs and cars decked out in patriotic decorations tossed candy at parade attendees as they headed toward Springlake City Park.

Commencing the tradition with a parade every year, the Springlake Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual 4th of July celebration to raise funds for personal protective equipment.

“ We’ve been doing this fundraiser for longer than I’ve been alive,” Alton Synatschk, the Assistant Fire Chief for Springlake Fire Department, said.

Festivities started with a parade and continued westward toward Springlake Park. Attendees enjoyed a hamburger supper, live music from the Kelly Hastey Band and a fireworks show.

On average, Synatschk said the department raises about $10,000 every year.

The highest cake bid sold for $1,200.

Aside from raising money for the department, Synatschk said he enjoys the tradition because it brings the community together to celebrate the holiday and enjoy each other’s company.
