Shallowater community members gathered for a Sunday night prayer walk on March 9, 2026, to mourn the loss of a middle schooler and honor Shallowater ISD head coach Jay Lusk and his family, who were involved in an accident during their drive back from San Antonio on March 6, 2026.
According to a statement from Shallowater ISD, all parties, including the other driver involved in the accident, are expected to recover. The district asked the com-munity to keep their family and the Mustang basketball team in their thoughts and prayers.
In response, several community members organized a ‘Shallowater Strong’ benefit event expected to take place on March 29, 2026, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Prima Vista Event Center.
The post stated, “In response to the recent tragedies in Shallowater, Texas, a group of alumni and community members is coming together to support the families affected. When our community hurts, we show up for each other. Join us for a day of community, support, and family fun.”
According to the post, the proceeds from the event will help all families in need. The event is expected to include live music, food trucks, bounce houses, face painting, a silent auction and raffle items.
Event organizers are currently seeking sponsors, raffle items, food trucks, a face painting vendor, silent auction items and volunteers.
