Scott Rojas takes Week 5 Football Contest

The Lamb County Leader- News’ annual Football Contest just wrapped up week five, as we are nearly halfway through this year’s contest.

This week, we had four contestants tie for the top spot with a mark of 155: Dewayne Hayes, John Hernandez, Robin Elliott and Scott Rojas.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Panthers and Browns, which was 39 points.

Rojas took first place with a guess of 40 points on the tie-breaker, while Hernandez placed second with a guess of 42 points, and Hayes finished third with a guess of 45 points. Elliott missed out on finishing in the top three with a guess of 50 points.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield dropped their homecoming game on Friday to Levelland, 6436, while Olton shutout Shamrock, 64-0, and Sudan went on the road and took down Tulia, 32-22. Springlake-Earth handled O’Donnell, 54-20, while Anton shutout Dawson, 52-0.

Bovina took down Morton, 38-20, while Childress took care of Panhandle, 35-28, and Gruver took care of Wellington, 56-28. the Amherst vs Follett and Memphis vs Vega games did not happen, therefore those were free for everybody.

In the College ranks, Florida defended the Swamp against Ole Miss, 52-28, while Georgia defeated Oklahoma, 41-13, and Notre Dame blasted Purdue, 49-10. Oregon took down USC, 41-27, while Toledo defeated San Diego State, 41-16.

In the NFL, the Chiefs took care of the Dolphins, 24-10, while the Jaguars defeated the Patriots, 35-6, and the Vikings took down the Buccaneers, 23-16. the Ravens edged out the Cowboys, 34-31, while the Broncos took down the Rams, 30-26.

Individual results are as follows: Those who finished 14-6 this week were Brenda Herrell, Hilaria Saenz, Jan Smith, Maria Pinon, Martin Duran, Sam Castillo, Sonja Robey, Stephanie Dabrowski and Stevy Smith. Contestants who went 13-7 this week were Alma Castillo, Ed Dabrowski, JR Herrell, Juan Garza, Lonnie Neinast, Mark Grace, Micky Orozco and Tim Walker.

12-8 finishers this week include, Charlie Smith, David Neinast, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, Moe Castillo, Richard Orozco, Stetson Sedberry, Teresa Dabrowski and Thomas Blackstone. Steve Raney finished 11-9 this week, while Donna Neinast and Oscar Sanchez each finished 10-10 and Larry Ashley finished 9-11 to round out the field.

In the overall standings, Hernandez takes sole possession of the top spot with 75 points, while Hayes and Lonnie Neinast are tied for second with 74 points and David Neinast and Rosemond are tied for third with 73 points.

Jan Smith and Stevy Smith are tied for fourth with 72 points, while Sam Castillo, JR Herrell, JC Orozco and Raney are tied for fifth with 71 points. Richard Orozco and Blackstone are tied for sixth with 70 points, while Micky Orozco, Tim Walker and Donna Neinast are tied for seventh with 69 points, and Elliott, Brenda Herrell, Duran, Alma Castillo and Grace are tied for eighth with 68 points.

Ashley is in ninth with 66 points and Garza rounds out the top 10 with 65 points.
