School Board makes personnel changes at executive session

Littlefield ISD’s Board of Trustees met Thursday night, Dec. 10, for a regular business session, with Board President Lance Broadhurst calling the meeting to order, and presiding.

Board member Adrian Solis offered the invocation

Minutes of the previous meetings were unanimously approved as read.

Administrative reports were presented by Primary Principal, Amher Hays; Elementary Principal, Tom Whistler; Junior High Principal Mitch McNeese; and High School Principal Mike Read. They each reported on the attendance, and other activities of their students.

2019-2020 Audit

Mitch Edwards from Webb, Webb, and Wright, Certified Public Accountants, presented copies of the audit to each of the School Board Trustees, so they could follow him as he reviewed the specifics of the audit.

He advised the board that the school staffwas very helpful in getting the information for the audit.

Supt. Robert Dillard told the board that the firm had gone through everything with a fine tooth comb, and did a very good job with the report.

The board voted unanimously to approve the audit.

COVID Testing at schools

Mitch McNeese reported that soon, all of the school campuses will have access to “Rapid Tests” for the Covid virus, for staff, teachers and students.

The trustees voted unanimously to go forward with the program

Emergency Sick Leave

Supt. Dillard answered some questions he had received from some school personnel, regarding their sick leave, and whether it is a paid leave.

The Superintendent’s discussion revealed that the Littlefield ISD does not want to dock an employee of their pay, if they have had to be quarantined.

The board unanimously approved a resolution that a staff member will not be penalized because of having to be quarintined.

Priorities Plans

Supt. Dillard presented information regarding plans for the facilities, maintenance, and renovation priority plans.

He noted that the status for construction on the bus barn, is the same as it was at the September meeting.

He told the board that some of them have been placed in the completed files.

Trust Property Disposition

The board approved the sales of three deed properties in Littlefield, for a bid of $3,760. School Safety and Security

Mitch McNeese reported that fire and tornado drills training are being practiced by the students; the staff is being trained on how to assure safety methods are utilized; and students and staff must wear mask or a shield at all times.

Rooms are constantly cleaned, and entries to each door, are sanitized, and hand sanitizer is available for use, after touching things that are touched by many.

He reported that safety training for Security Guards with weapon usage, is done regularly.

“There is lots of good stuff being done to help school children,” he said. Methods of receiving information from students, and staff, about things happening to students, such as bullying, to get them help from bad situations, are being utilized, without anyone outside the system, knowing who reports or receives.

Vehicle Purchase

The board unanimously approved the $49,475 bid from John Roley’s AutoCenter for a pickup for the Ag Science Dept.

BudgetAmendment

A Budget Amendment to move some funds so the budget will remain balanced, was unanimously approved by the trustees.

Financial, Investment Review

Regarding a review and report on the Financial and Investments, Supt. Dillard advised the board that everything remains in good condition.

Executive Session, Personnel

The board went into executive session at 8:09 to consider personnel matters.

Back in open session

Back in open session, the board approved several changes in personnel.

They approved the hiring and contract of Mitch McNeese for the Assistant Superintendent’s position, to begin July 1, 2010.

They approved the hiring of Amber Hays, (current Primary Principal) for the position of High School Principal, effective July 1, 2021.

They approved the hiring of Beverly Boldes for the position of Business Manager, effective March 1, 2021.

They approved contracting with Proximity Learning for remote instructive learning for High School Chemistry.

They approved the filing of a waiver to the Texas Education Agency to suspend teacher and principal appraisals for the 2020-2021 school year.

They approved a one-time payment of $1,000 for all staff members, in consideration for additional work duties, related to the COC1D-19 Pandemic, not contemplated prior to the implementation of the current compensation plan.

Review of board training

Before adjourning, the board reviewed board training information for the upcoming year.
