Sanchez takes first place in LCLN Football Contest

The Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is back, wrapping up its first week this past weekend.

It was an all high school contest for the first week, as college football and NFL have not started yet.

Oscar Sanchez and David Neinast were the high points this week, as they both finished 15-5, but Sanchez took first place with the tie-breaker, which was the combined score between Estacado and Greenwood, 23. Sanchez’s guess was 48 points, while David Neinast’s guess was 54 points, leaving him in second place this week.

Martin Duran and Lonnie Neinast finished tied for third this week at 14-6. But, Duran took the prize for third place with a guess of 41 points on the tie-breaker, beating out Lonnie Neinast’s guess of 50 points.

Littlefield got their first win of the Jimmy Thomas era with a, 45-6, victory over Dimmitt, while Olton got some revenge on Sudan, taking their contest, 38-26. Amherst fell to the Lubbock Home School Titans, 44-34, while Anton shutout Silverton, 47-0.

New deal throttled Trinity Christian, 41-7, while Abernathy took down Shallowater, 28-16, and Rider downed Dumas, 38-18. Legacy took down the Amarillo Sandies, 37-7, while Tascosa blasted Abilene, 40-21.

Perryton took down Dalhart, 27-6, while Stratford pulled out a close one over Spearman, 29-22. Vega took it to Highland Park, 58-16, while Childress blasted Panhandle, 68-27, and Farwell took down the Ralls Jackrabbits, 41-21.

Muleshoe got the best of Sundown, 33-14, while Frenship edged out Coronado, 28-26, and Friona drummed Brownfield, 42-14. Permian took down El Paso Pebble Hills, 26-15, and Canadian routed West Texas High, 69-6.

The rest of the contestant results are as follows:

Donna Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, Thomas Blackstone and Tommy Cloninger, each finished 13-7 this week, while Charlie Bishop, Devin Garcia, Ivan Estrada, Juan Hernandez, Kay Cloninger, Kenn Carr, Lyndel Evans, Marcus Garcia, Marcelino Castillo, Ronnie Martin and Warren Dayton each finished 12-8 this week.

Those who finished 11-9 this week were, Charlie Smith, JR Herrell, Larry Lee Ashley and Terrill Moorhead. 10-10 finishers included, Bobby Cunningham, Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski, Floyce Pierce, Jimmy Davis Sr., Johnny Williams, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Mark Grace and Teresa Dabrowski.

Contestants who finished 9-11 this week were Evan Barrera, Jan Smith, Jimmy Davis Jr., Lucas Casas Jr., and Maria Pinon, while Keeley Adams and Robin Elliott each finished 8-12 to round out week ones results.
