Ronnie Martin, Dewayne Hayes split week one of football contest

The Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is back, after wrapping up our first week of games this past weekend.

Dewayne Hayes, Ronnie Martin, David Neinast and Trevor Williams all finished 15-5 this week, therefore our winners this week were decided by tie-breaker, which was the combined score between Monterey and Odessa; 81 points. Dewayne Hayes and Ronnie Martin tied with a guess of 52 points each, to split the first and second place prizes evenly. David Neinast took third place with a guess of 48 points, edging out Trevor Williams, who guessed 38 points.

Littlefield’s defense stole the show against Muleshoe with seven turnovers, as they defeated the Mules, 28-7, while Olton shutout Sudan, 49-0. Whitharral ran away late from Springlake-Earth, taking their home-opener, 72-32, while Amherst blasted Grady, 32-6.

Anton 45’ed Lazbuddie, 48-0, while Shallowater took care of Monahans, 47-27, and Idalou took down Sweetwater, 38-20. Estacado survived Greenwood, 28-24, while Lubbock-Cooper handled Dumas, 27-8. On Saturday, Happy fell to Westbrook, 62-6, while Plainview dominated Levelland on Friday night, 42-3.

Perryton cruised past Dalhart, 48-20, while Farwell edged out New Deal, 27-21, and Childress snuck by Abernathy, 16-14. River Road got the best of Roosevelt, 15-12, while Vega rocked Bovina, 54-20. Caprock throttled Hereford, 54-7, while Andrews took down Randall, 11-7, and Permain defeated Abilene 17-3. Coronado defended their home turf against Frenship, 20-14.

Week two of the contest will included 10 high school games and 10 college football games.

The individual standings are as follows: Donna Neinast, Gary Edwards, Jaime Goodman and JR Herrell each finished 14-6 this week, while Johnny Rosemond, Larry Ashley, Lonnie Neinast, Marcelino Castillo, Mark Grace, Martin Duran and Oscar Sanchez each finished 13-7.

Brenda Herrell, Devin Garcia, Ed Dabrowski, Ivan Estrada, J.C. Orozco, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Stevy Smith and Tommy Cloninger each finished 12-8 this week, while Chris Ruiz, Marcus Garcia, Maria Pinon and Terrill Moorhead each finished 11-9, and Jimmy Garcia and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 10-10.

Charlie Smith, Richard Orozco and Sam Castillo each finished 9-- 11, while Alma Castillo finished 8-12.
