Plains Cotton Growers to hold 65th annual meeting Friday

The 65 th Annual Meeting of Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. will be held Friday, April 1, at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The annual meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast sponsored by Deltapine.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting will be called to order at 9.a.m. by Brent Nelson. Plains Cotton Growers President.

The invocation and pledge will be led by Robert M. Coerver, Bishop of Lubbock.

Nelson will provide the president’s annual report at 9:05 a.m. which will be followed by the presentation of the 2021 PCG Outstanding Cotton Agent Award by Danny Nusser, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Farm Policy Panel, facilitated by Kody Bessent, PCG Chief Executive Officer, will begin at 9:15 with panelists: Jennifer Cervantes, Texas and Florida Sugar Cane League; Reece Langley, National Cotton Council and Tim Lust, National Sorghum Pro-ducers.

Cervantes works to educate members and staff to the positive contributions of sugar cane farmers and the necessary role they play in the world of agriculture and with consumers of agriculture products.

Langley is Vice President of Washington Operations for the National Cotton Council and works with Congress and Administration to help the U.S. cotton industry compete effectively and profitably in a global market. Lust has 25 years of experience in the sorghum industry, and leads both the National Sorghum Producers and the United Sorghum Checkoff Program. He helps growers with everything from farm policy to new genetics.

A 10 minute break is scheduled with Supply Chain Challenges being discussed by Peyton Harper, The Fertilizer Institute. As Director of Retail & Field Sustainability, Harper assists with developing and directing stakeholder outreach programs to promote nutrient stewardship at the field level for The Fertilizer Institute.

At 10:45 a.m., Evaluating Carbon Contracts will be addressed by Tiffany Lashmet, J.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. As an agricultural law specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Lashmet focuses on legal issues impacting Texas landowners and a

At 11:15 a.m., Barry Evans, a Swisher County producer, will introduce the keynote speaker, David Wasserman. As House Editor for The Cook Political Report, Wasserman is primarily responsible for handicapping and analyzing U.S. House Races. However, his exceptional talent for predicting elections also extends to the Senate and White House.

At 11:55 a.m. Kody Bessent, PCG Chief Executive Officer, will address the group with lunch, sponsored by Fiber Max Cotton and BASF, beginning at noon.
