On Wednesday, April 19,2023 citizens of Littlefield gathered to witness the groundbreaking for a new building and renovations which will offer students new career skills training in addition to a quality education. The facilities will enable students to move on to further their degree programs and graduate Littlefield High School with skills that will allow them to enter the workforce upon graduation. By offering greater educational facilities, the community anticipates growth for both the school district and the community.

Representatives of the Littlefield Independent School District, Parkhill Architectural Firm of Lubbock, Texas, Teinart Construction, and a group of students, who look forward to being among the first classes to graduate from the new facilities, joined Littlefield residents to witness the ceremony. KCBD Channel 11 News and Channel 34 from Lubbock were also there to report on the event.

The renovations include plans to eventually combine Littlefield Junior High School and Littlefield High School which will be more efficient and economical for the school district.

The Board of Trustees approved the Order for calling a Bond Election in May 2022 and the election took place on May 7, 2022. The bond is for $ 41.5 million dollars and will be used for the following items: A New High School Building, A New Career & Technical Education Center, Renovation/ Addition to Existing High School for Conversion to Junior High School, Elementary School “Maker-Space” & Library Improvements, and Primary School “Maker-Space” & Library Improvements.

Littlefield Independent School District Superintendent Mike Read welcomed guests and expressed gratitude to the residents of Littlefield who supported the project which would advance the education and opportunities for Littlefield students.

The construction is projected to be completed by Christmas of 2024 which means today’s sophomores may be the first class to graduate from the new facility. In an interview with sophomore Chip Green conducted by KCBD news 11 Lubbock, Green stated, “It’s awesome, pretty cool ‘cause your name will be there forever,” Green said.

Green says “he hopes to come back to Littlefield after college and maybe one day his kids will walk the same halls.”

High School Principal Amber Hayes stated,”Today was a very exciting day for our students and staff. We know the opportunities that this new building will offer our students. We currently have a strong college readiness program that allows our students to earn an associate’s degree while in high school. This new building will allow us to add new CTE programs that will give our students handson training while earning industry- based certifications to be employable upon graduation. I am proud that our taxpayers put students’ success first by passing this bond. It is a great day to be a Littlefield Wildcat!
