The Summer Reading Program for June, 2022 ended with a big splash on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
The event began with craft stations and games, a hamburger lunch with all the trimmings, presentations of prizes for reading the most books this summer, and culminated with a swimming tank and a giant water slide.
The annual reading program through the month of June encourages young people ages 4 to 12 to explore books. The children may get a library card free of charge and learn how to use the library.
The theme of this year’s program was “Oceans of Possibilities”. Special guests included Walter’s World of Pets and the Science Spectrum, Cali the Scuba Diver, and Toni Meredith entertained the children with music and demonstrations. The children were also encouraged to read aloud to the others.
Prizes were awarded to the program participants who read the most books this summer. Ages groups were 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12.
First prize winners of a new bicycles were:
-Poppy Demel ages 4 to 6
-Emma Salinas ages 7 to 9
-Kendall Vargas ages 10 to 12
Second prizes were awarded to:
-Charlie Sanchez ages 4 to 6
-Brian Gotcher ages 7 to 9
-Christian Gotcher ages 10 to 12
Third prizes were awarded to:
-Nora Gonzales ages 7 to 9
-Korben Jennings ages 10 to 12
Thanks go out to the youth volunteers for their assistance in the program. Volunteers for 2022 were Mel Marquez, Savannah Ramirez, Peyton Wright, Maribel Rios, and voted Most Valuable Volunteer was Tory Roque.
The Lamb County Library wishes to thank Wright Collision Center of Littlefield and Levelland for donating the bicycles, Jamie Grey and the Littlefield Volunteer Fire Department for providing the swimming tank, Officer Howard and Pepper of the Littlefield Police Department for their participation in the program, and Lamb County Library wishes to also thank H.E.B, United Supermarket, and Food King for their very generous donations.
The library engaged the water slide from Happy Jump Inflatables in Levelland, Texas.
