No comments were made during the public comment portion of the meeting.

During the consent agenda portion, commissioners approved the minutes from the previous March 23 meeting.

Additionally, the court approved bills and payroll.

The commissioners approved donations given to the juvenile probation department, the Olton Area Library and the Lamb County Library, totaling $529.

Agenda item four involved a public hearing for the approval of a cattle guard across County Road 239 and Precinct One.

Previously, an individual constructed cattle guards across the land without prior county approval. The individual requested a public hearing and said the road where he built the cattle guard is seldom used.

“I’d like permission to put that cattle guard in, it’s just a road that’s not used hardly ever,” the individual said. “I want it to be safe. Instead of building a barbed wire fence on both sides of the road, I would like to put the cattle guards on each end.”

Commissioner Lee Logan cited liability and maintenance issues as his primary concerns about the cattle guard placement.

“It falls on us, whether you own the cattle guard or not, since it’s on county property,” Logan said. “I’m not trying to sound like a mean guy, I’m just putting the facts out there. This is county property; it is our responsibility if somebody kills themself.”

A motion by Commissioner Kent Lewis declared not to approve the cattle guard or any permanent fencing across the county roads. Commissioner Cory DeBerry seconded the motion.

The motion carried, and commissioners ordered the individual to remove the cattle guard within 10 days.

Agenda item seven acknowledged the reappointment of the county auditor, Gina Jones. Commissioners acknowledged her reappointment, as no voting or action was necessary.

“I wouldn’t want to do this job without you,” DeLoach said to Jones.

Further, in a motion by commissioner Danny Short and seconded by commissioner Kent Lewis, commissioners approved Jones’ bond.

The last agenda item involved taking action on Resolution Senate Bill 8 Grant Funding for the sheriff’s office.

After applying for the grant, the sheriff’s office would receive approximately $80,000 and have two years to utilize the funds.

A motion was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Commissioner Cory DeBerry. Applying for the grant was approved.

The commissioners adjourned the meeting at 10:26 a.m.
